About

Ian Willey is an educator, artist and designer whose passion is helping people, young and old, to make or play in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

By combining his design and communication skills with his love for learning, Ian enjoys devising engaging and entertaining ways for people to acquire new skills, understanding and knowledge.

As a graduate of the Royal College of Art with a teacher training qualification in Design and Technology from Goldsmiths University, Ian uses his broad general knowledge and experience to deliver workshops that think "outside of the box". Ian believes in "learning through doing" and his workshops always prioritise a safe, confidence-building hands-on experience for participants.

As a young person Ian became conscious of the challenge of creating and making without causing unnecessary harm to the living world and respecting our natural resources. He always strives to make good use of materials, re-purposing common waste materials wherever practical. He is very interested in exploring the intrinsically sustainable features of ancient "craft" technologies and is inspired by the idea that making techniques practised by ancient humans are as fundamental to our species-identity as music. It is his opinion that having a go at these crafts is the closest we can come to time travel  :)
